There was a time when all I thought about was going to college. It was a dream I had but I was all alone in this dream. My parents were divorced and my mother was raising me doin the best she could and I was financialy unable to get into a college nor did I have the knowledge on how to go about tapping into the resources of getting me established in a good school. Despair, lack of faith, and unbelief set in and I had soon lost my sense of worth and self esteem. All I had then was negativity to go with negative alternatives it seemed. Before long, I was up to no good and landed in prison by the age of 20. In my young ignorance, I was trying to make a small investment of cash into a bundle the illegal way so that I could pay my way into college and to paurchase a nice car and other luxuries but I never quite made it.
The representative advised me on how to go about getting funded for the program by way of government grants and loans. It turned out that by simply working with the finalncial advisor on campus, I was able to get in the culinary program and some how get funded for the amount of $42,000. Of course I have to pay off the loan after graduation which was a 15 month program for an associates degree in culinary arts but what I didn't know all along was that I qualified for grants (free money) worth thousands. So the next thing I know, I'm in class and doing very well. I have replaced despair with hope, and lack of faith into faith that can move mountains.
I only wish that I had known about college loans and grants when I was younger. I always grew up thinking that the parents pay for college and if they don't then you are out of luck, but the truth is that most colleges are willing to offer assistance and advise you in connecting to a network of financial options that exist regardless of your status.
So for those of you who have a dream of going to college or taking up a trade, then you should definately step up and go for it regardless of the past or even your age. There are poeple in my class older than me and I am now 34 years old on my way to becoming a profesional chef under the Le Cordon Bleu Program. Remember that money grants, loan, and scholarships are available. Basically, what I'm saying is if you have a dream you should definately go for it and never give up but you have to reach out and grab it. Pay Attention!
